The Three Gorges Project is by far the largest water conservancy project in the world and the hydropower project with the most extensive comprehensive benefits. Monitoring shows that the main buildings such as the river dam, flood discharge and energy dissipation, water diversion and power generation, navigation and Maoping River protection project are in normal working condition, and the mechanical and electrical systems and equipment, and metal structure equipment are operating safely and stably. In terms of flood control, from impoundment to the end of August 2020, the total amount of flood blocking in the Three Gorges Reservoir exceeded 180 billion cubic meters. In 2010, 2012, and 2020, the maximum flood peaks entering the reservoir exceeded 70000 cubic meters per second. After reservoir storage, the flood peak was reduced by about 40%, which greatly reduced the flood control pressure in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
